Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has been invited as a special guest of honour at the inauguration of the 1st Ordinary Advisory Session of the President for the National Assembly of Benin and the opening ceremony of its 9th Parliament.
This was made known when the Beninese ambassador to Ghana, Allowe Leo Kabah paid a courtesy call on Bagbin in Parliament.
Ambassador Leo Kabah was in Parliament as a follow-up to an earlier invitation extended to Bagbin, who is expected to deliver a goodwill message in an address to the National Assembly and then deliver a keynote message at the inauguration.
Ghana and Benin have a long-standing relationship based on mutual interests and benefits. Benin looks up to Ghana as a model of parliamentary democracy and this was reiterated by the ambassador during his conversation with the Speaker.
Speaker Bagbin, on his part, reminisced on his long-standing relationship with the President of the National Assembly, Louis Viavonou and expressed the hope that the continued collaboration between both Parliaments will inure to the benefit of the people of the two countries.
Speaker Bagbin affirmed his intention to honour the invitation and is expected to lead a delegation to Benin to attend the event on 12 April and return on 13 April 2023.
