The 15 year old who was stabbed to death this morning has been identified as Aliana.
Aliana’s parents are both from Ghana and living in London.
A British Ghanaian teenage girl from a leading private school was fatally stabbed moments after she rejected flowers from a boy, The Telegraph understands.
The 15-year-old,identified as Aliana , was attacked outside a shopping centre on Wellesley Road, a major road running through Croydon town centre, at around 8.30am on Wednesday.
The Old Palace of John Whitgift school confirmed the victim was a pupil and said staff are shocked by her “senseless and tragic death”.
Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed an argument erupted on a bus between the girl, her friends and pupils from another local school, which then spilled over onto the pavement.
According to one eyewitness, the girl was stabbed after rejecting flowers that were given to her by a boy.
She was pronounced dead on the pavement despite desperate attempts by members of the public and emergency crews to save her.
In a police press conference at the scene in Croydon, Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain said a 17-year-old boy had been arrested in New Addington and remains in police custody.
Eyewitness – ‘We tried to catch suspect’
A man has described how he and others chased a boy after a 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Croydon.
Victor Asare was on a bus on the way home from a night shift as a security worker when he said he saw a boy in a black blazer stab a girl in the neck with a knife which was “black, thin and about a foot long”.
The 50-year-old said: “The boy wore a black blazer, the girl wore green. It looked like the girl didn’t want the boy to come closer.”
He then described the boy stabbing the girl in the neck with a black knife.
“The blood was coming like water,” he added.
“A lot of people came, everyone came off the bus. [The boy] ran away. Everybody was crying and screaming. The girl was on the floor.
“We tried to catch him and a lot of people tried to save the girl. I was so shocked, I was shaken. It’s somebody’s daughter.”
