President Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of 24 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

This was in a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation, Dan Botwe.

The President said the directive was in accordance with Article 243(3) (B) of the constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014.

President Akufo-Addo said the directive takes immediate effect, with their replacements to be announced in due course.

In his second term, the President delayed the appointment of MMDCEs for over nine months.

The development raised concerns about the effective operations of the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.

However, it is not clear what has occasioned the revocation of the appointment of these persons, barely 11 months to the end of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
