A 35-year-old woman has allegedly poisoned herself and her two children at Dwenedabi, a farming community at Offinso in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the death of her 3-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 10, 2024.
The woman, who was identified as Sister Mansah, fed her children with weedicide, killing her three-year-old daughter, Abdulai Akua Hawa, in the process.
However, Sister Mansah and her six-year-old son, Abdulai Sampson, are receiving treatment at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital.
According to residents, Sister Mansah, after taking the weedicide with her children, went to her husband’s workplace to report her actions to him and asked him to save the children if he wanted.
“The husband operates a drinking spot in the community, so he was at the office when the woman went there to report the incident to him; she is reported to have asked the husband to rush home and save his children because she had given them weedicide,“ a resident narrated.
The husband, Mr. Kofi Abdulai, said in an interview that he had no idea what might have triggered the woman to poison the children.
He noted that he had reported the matter to the police, who have since taken over the matter for further investigation.
In a similar incident, a 30-year-old mason allegedly killed his two-week-old baby, his girlfriend, and his four-year-old stepson at Asuoso in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, who was identified as Shadrack but is popularly known as Kwaata, murdered his girlfriend, 25-year-old Portia Yerebe, and later poisoned his four-year-old stepson, Nti Joseph, and his two-week-old child.
The sad incident happened on Monday, January 29, 2024.
Portia Yerebe’s mother visited her daughter, who lived with her boyfriend, Shadrack, to bathe the newborn but realized their room was locked.
She left and later returned in the evening to check on them, only to find the room still locked.
Sensing danger, the mother informed some opinion leaders in the community and broke into the room.
Upon breaking into the room, the opinion leaders saw the lifeless bodies of the three deceased persons and immediately informed the police.
