Recently, the CEO of Miracle Films, Mr. Samuel Nyamekye, praised actors such as Mercy Asiedu, LilWin, Dr. Likee, Matilda Asare, and Vivian Jill Lawrence for successfully revamping the Kumawood industry by actively producing movies and series, both on YouTube and traditional media.
Following his statements, actor Bill Asamoah was asked in an interview with Poleeno Multimedia whether he agrees with some assertions that Dr. Likee, in particular, had “saved” the Kumawood industry with his popular YouTube series that has gained massive patronage, but the actor strongly disagreed with that sentiment.
“That’s an unfortunate statement. As much as I applaud my younger brother for what he’s doing, we should avoid rushing to overpraise people. When you do that, what message does it send to others in the industry?”
He continued, “Dr. Likee is doing well, but is he the only one working? He has a whole team behind him. So, when people say Dr. Likee saved Kumawood, how do we interpret that? We were working before he entered the industry. Just because someone becomes a favourite of the masses doesn’t mean they are the only one holding everything together.”
But after remaining silent on these comments for some time, Dr. Likee finally addressed it in an interview with Angel FM.
“Look, I am more concerned about the streets. The Kumawood industry isn’t my sole focus. I’m just doing my own thing. I’m not in any competition for the ‘King of Kumawood’ title. The only time I’ll truly be bothered is when the streets turn their back on me. My goal is to provide opportunities for people from the streets to rise and become stars, that’s all.” he stated.
He added, “Look at people like B. Kusi, who’s passed away. The late OD, who was known for his Akan drama, was an excellent actor to the point that they even called him ‘Super OD.’ Osofo Dadzie is also gone. These exceptional actors have left us.”
Later, in another interview with Kessben FM, Dr. Likee reiterated his stance about Bill Asamoah’s statements, saying,
“People are free to express their opinions, but there’s a way you can say these things that clearly shows the underlying hate you have for me. Let’s move away from unnecessary hate. It’s not my doing that I’ve become who I am today. I don’t climb to the top alone; I always bring others along with me.”
