The Ashanti Regional Police have arrested one individual following a clash during the re-run of the Council of State election at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.
The suspect was apprehended after he breached a security barricade mounted by the police at the venue.
He was part of the supporters of one of the candidates, who flouted the police directive to remain behind the barricades mounted to beef up security for the election.
Following a change of venue due to security concerns, vehicles and some influential persons without accreditation were prohibited from the venue, which was filled with several security officers.
This was to prevent activities that could disrupt the electoral process.
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced the re-run of the Council of State election for the Ashanti Region after chaos marred the process on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
As the election took place in all regions across the country, a group of heavily built men invaded the Kumasi polling station to cause mayhem.
Their aggressive actions not only led to the destruction of materials belonging to the EC but also resulted in the physical assault of journalists covering the elections.
Following the chaotic disruption, the election process was put on hold for calm to be restored.
