Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and CEO of GoldBoard, Sammy Gyamfi, has disclosed that a significant majority of the Council of State supports the ongoing process against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
According to him, 30 out of 31 members of the Council of State were convinced that a prima facie case had been made and supported the Chief Justice’s suspension pending investigation.
The Chief Justice was recently suspended following petitions for her removal from office, sparking widespread reactions and debate within legal and political circles.
While details of the allegations remain unclear, the move has attracted attention from both legal professionals and the general public, who are closely watching how the case unfolds.
Mr Gyamfi stressed that the decision by the Council of State was not politically motivated.
“Nobody can tell me that all the 30 members of the Council of State are NDC members who hate the Chief Justice,” he said.
He noted that the number of members backing the decision adds weight to the seriousness of the allegations.
Meanwhile, calls have grown louder for transparency and strict adherence to constitutional procedures, while many see this moment as a key test of the country’s commitment to accountability and judicial independence.
