Political analyst Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to pause its ongoing political activities and refocus on resolving internal conflicts that risk undermining party unity and grassroots support.
In an interview on Tuesday, April 29, Dr. Asah-Asante emphasised that the NPP must return to the drawing board and critically assess its internal dynamics before pursuing its broader campaign goals.
He warned that unresolved tensions within the party could weaken its organisational strength and diminish its effectiveness ahead of the upcoming elections.
“I believe they have to abort the whole programme and then get to the drawing board, get to the basis and get the basis right. Let them set up a body that will look out wholly for the conflicts that exist within the party [and] try and deal with that,” he said.
According to Dr Asah-Asante, internal divisions within the party, if left unaddressed, could severely undermine its chances in future elections.
He warned that such issues often embolden discontented members to openly confront party leadership, thereby destabilising internal structures and weakening public perception.
“Once you deal with that, you will be inundated with a lot of calls to get the grassroots energised,” he noted.
He further observed that internal dissatisfaction within the NPP is becoming increasingly visible, as outspoken members begin to publicly challenge the party’s leadership.
He advised the NPP to respond with a calm and strategic approach, urging the leadership to initiate a temporary pause in political activities and conduct a thorough internal review.
According to him, these steps are essential to restoring unity, strengthening party cohesion, and regaining momentum.
