Ghana has recorded seven new cases of Mpox as of July 6, 2025, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 170.

This was disclosed in the latest update released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The sharp increase follows the 30 new cases reported on June 30, reflecting a consistent rise over the past week.

According to health officials, the outbreak is still under control, with no new hospitalisations or deaths recorded at this time.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral infection primarily transmitted through close physical contact with those who are infected.

It usually manifests with symptoms such as fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a characteristic rash. While most cases tend to be mild, the virus can present serious health risks without timely intervention.

In light of the rising number of cases, the GHS is strengthening its public health messaging, urging the people of Ghana to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures.

This includes refraining from close contact with individuals exhibiting rash symptoms, maintaining regular and thorough handwashing, and seeking immediate medical advice at the first signs of illness.

The importance of early detection and quick reporting in controlling the spread of the virus continues to be a focal point for health officials.

The GHS has reiterated its dedication to robust surveillance, prompt action, and active community involvement to curb transmission.

With the total number of cases now at 170, the GHS is encouraging all citizens to stay alert, follow safety protocols, and contribute to the collective efforts aimed at safeguarding public health throughout the country.
