Residents of Kotei in the Ashanti Region are in shock after a 64-year-old man, Robert Quaicoe, allegedly attacked a nine-year-old boy with a cutlass over sugarcane harvesting.
The disturbing incident occurred on July 29, 2025, when the suspect reportedly spotted the victim, Kelvin Oppong, and some of his friends harvesting sugarcane from his farm without permission.
According to witnesses, Quaicoe chased the boys off the land and managed to catch young Kelvin.
In a shocking turn of events, the elderly man allegedly used a cutlass to slash the child’s left wrist, leaving him with a severe injury. The other boys fled the scene and remain at large.
Francis Adu, the boy’s father, rushed to the area upon hearing of the attack. Seeing his son wounded, he confronted the suspect and handed him over to the KNUST District Police for further action.
The victim is receiving medical care, and police have launched a full investigation into the matter. Authorities say they are making efforts to locate the other children involved, as their accounts will help piece together the full story.
