Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has taken a swipe at the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, over his handling of negotiations with MultiChoice Africa on DStv subscription fees.
Reacting to the Minister’s claim that MultiChoice has agreed to an “unprecedented increased value offer” for Ghanaian subscribers, Kamal-Deen argued that Sam George’s confrontational approach undermined the talks rather than strengthened them.
“To my brother Sam George, talk is cheap. You can do all the talking and flex your muscles, but investors work with the law. They come in with top lawyers, tax experts, and marketing experts. If you threaten them, they’ll simply counter with their own experts, and the whole thing becomes a fight,” he said in an interview on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to him, the Minister should have leveraged the strong public backing he enjoyed to build pressure on MultiChoice instead of issuing threats.
“At least the public was on his side. All he had to do was mobilise them to put pressure on DStv. That would have sent a clear message. But instead, he issued threats and in the end came back to say subscribers will get more channels. Does more channels mean a reduction?” he asked.
