Residents of Akyempim, situated in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region, were plunged into a profound mourning as the remains of seven who died in a suspected arson attack on November 1, 2025, were laid to rest in one grave.

The disaster was allegedly caused by the father and husband of the family, who later committed suicide after causing the harm.

On Tuesday, November 11, a burial ceremony took place for Ama Dapaah, aged 39, along with her children, Maame Yaa, 18, Kwabi, 15, Kwame Rasteo, 13, Isaac Charteng Afriyie, 6, Abigail Anima Afriyie, 4, and Kwadwo, who was just 7 months old.

Except for Dapaah, all other victims, whose remains were entirely incinerated due to the fire, were interred in body bags.

It will be recalled that the Ghana National Fire Service, the Dunkwa-on-Offin station, earlier responded to an emergency call at approximately 1 am on November 1, 2025.

However, the response team was unable to access the building promptly as the entrance was locked. By the time the lock was finally opened, all seven victims had been burnt beyond recognition.
