The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into a viral video in which an American citizen, Arianna Naomi Mackey, claims that she was kidnapped and robbed by five masked individuals who purported to be police officers conducting snap-check duties in Accra.

According to the CID, initial investigations suggest that the video was filmed at a hotel in Accra where Mackey and two associates were residing.

The department confirmed that the group checked out of the hotel on December 5, 2025, and Mackey departed Ghana via Kotoka International Airport on the same day.

Efforts to obtain information from the alleged victim have thus far been difficult. Mackey reportedly told police she was unable to provide the names of the supposed officers or the vehicle’s registration number.

She also refused to disclose the contact details of a friend who was allegedly present with her at the time, citing her friend’s reluctance to engage in the investigation.

The CID further revealed that the video has since been removed from Mackey’s social media account, and repeated attempts to contact her through WhatsApp calls and messages have been unsuccessful.

Investigators are now attempting to secure her cooperation through suitable diplomatic channels.

Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, stated that the Ghana Police Service takes such allegations very seriously and is dedicated to uncovering the truth surrounding the incident.
