President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new Central Mosque at Akweteyman in the Okaikwei North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Addressing the gathering, he paid tribute to the late Imam Ali Akweteyman for his significant contribution towards the construction of the mosque.

President Mahama mentioned that the mosque is a symbol of the peaceful coexistence among various religious groups in Ghana.Ghana travel guide

He highlighted the presence of a pastor at the commissioning ceremony as a testament to Ghana’s unique unity.

He further announced the quota for Hajj given to Ghana by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, saying, “With regard to this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given Ghana a quota of 5,960 pilgrims.”

He noted that the quota has been filled, stressing the reduced cost of the 2026 Hajj fee to GH¢60,000.

President Mahama used the opportunity to urge prospective pilgrims to respect the Hajj Committee’s directive not to accept late payments, stating that the usual delays created problems, including some applicants being left behind.

He revealed that the Committee had secured quality accommodation for pilgrims in both Mecca and Medina, and are finalising transportation arrangements.

He expressed optimism for 2027 pilgrims as work on the Hajj Transit Terminal at the Kotoka International Airport is being constructed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

The President prayed for blessings to be bestowed on all Ghanaians and the nation, as the month of Ramadan was approaching.

He prayed that Allah would listen to the supplications of all who visited the mosque.

“Anybody who comes into this mosque to pray, may Allah listen and respond to the person’s prayers,” he said, adding that the edifice should be a blessing to the people of Akweteyman and all who visit.

President Mahama also expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the completion of the mosque.
