Management of the Kumawu District Health Directorate has commenced internal investigations regarding an alleged assault involving a doctor and a pharmacist at the Kumawu Government Hospital.
Sources within the facility suggest that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident, with management awaiting its findings before proceeding with any further actions.
This development follows a formal complaint that was filed at the Kumawu Police Command on February 15, 2026.
As per the police report, Dr. Amankwaa, who is employed in the hospital’s emergency unit, reported an alleged assault by pharmacist Kofi Dougan.
The doctor reportedly arrived at the police station wearing a torn uniform and displaying visible bruises on his face. He informed the officers that he had been verbally abused and physically assaulted while attempting to retrieve medication from the hospital pharmacy on behalf of a patient.

Dr. Amankwaa clarified that as the officer responsible for the emergency unit, he had attended to a patient who was admitted and, due to the critical nature of the case, personally went to the pharmacy to collect the prescribed medication.
He alleged that the pharmacist questioned his authority to collect the prescription, which led to a misunderstanding that escalated into a confrontation.
According to him, the altercation resulted in his clothing being torn and him suffering facial injuries.
Hospital staff intervened to separate the two individuals.
The police subsequently provided Dr. Amankwaa with a medical report form to document his injuries, while the pharmacist was arrested and taken into custody.
Kofi Dougan has admitted that an incident took place but has denied assaulting the doctor. He was held overnight and later released on bail as investigations are ongoing.
While police inquiries continue, health authorities have initiated parallel internal investigations to ascertain the facts of the situation and determine any necessary disciplinary actions.
Dr. Amankwaa has since returned to work at the hospital.
