Two people have been injured with cutlass wounds following a violent clash between supporters of two traditional chiefs in Kpandai in the Northern Region over the use of a gravel pit.
The dispute arose over a gravel pit being used to supply materials for the rehabilitation of the Dobong community road.
According to the Kpandai branch chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who was present at the scene, the land for the gravel extraction had been granted by the Nkanchina chief for the road project.
However, another chief in the area, Nana Ntosah, reportedly ordered that operations at the site be stopped.
The NDC chairman stated that Nana Ntosah allegedly sent payloaders to the pit, but supporters of the Nkanchina chief resisted the move and prevented the machinery from operating.
The disagreement later escalated into a violent confrontation.
During the clash, two people sustained cutlass injuries, and six motorbikes were set on fire.
Police intervened promptly to restore calm and prevent further violence.
The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the Kpandai District Hospital.
