The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and his Deputy, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, have summoned contractors working on the Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi road project over the slow pace of work despite receiving substantial payments from the government.

According to the minister, the contractor, VOLTA IMPEX, received approximately GH¢66 million as mobilisation funds but has failed to deliver work to the expected standard.

During an inspection of the road, captured in a video shared by Arnold Mensah on Facebook on May 4, 2026, the ministers questioned both the quality and timeline of work done, particularly the clearing of the road stretch.

Agbodza noted that the clearing appeared recent, contradicting the contractor’s claim that it had been completed earlier.

“The clearing that we all witnessed doesn’t look like work done in January or February. It looks like it was carried out only about three or four days ago,” he said.

He further pressed the project manager for clarity on when the work was undertaken.

“Where is the project manager? When did you do this clearing?” he asked.

When the contractor indicated that work began in April, the minister rejected the explanation, pointing out inconsistencies.

“This cannot be clearing done in April. You first said April, and now you say part was done earlier and another part today,” he stated.

Deputy Minister Suhuyini also expressed disappointment over the lack of progress.

He noted that contractors had long been given access to the site, yet little had been achieved.

He revealed that the inspection team was surprised to learn that the site was only now being formally handed over, suggesting that no substantial work had taken place.

“On our way here, we were shocked to be told that we are actually coming to hand over the site to the contractor. It clearly indicates that no real work has been happening,” he said.

Suhuyini stressed that the amount paid to the contractor does not correspond with the level of work observed.

“We have information that about GH¢66 million has been paid as mobilisation for this project. It is unacceptable for us to see this level of work at this stage,” he added.

Describing the situation as deeply disappointing, the minister directed that the contractor’s Chief Director appear before the Ministry to account for the delays.

“This is totally unacceptable. The contractor’s Chief Director must appear before the Ministry on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. to explain what is happening,” he said.
