The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo, has visited the Dansoman Otodjor flood-prone area to inspect ongoing developments and ensure strict enforcement of flood prevention regulations.
His visit comes in response to the recent unpredictable rainfall patterns and growing concerns about possible flooding in the municipality.
During the inspection, Rev. Kwaku Addo expressed serious concern about unauthorized construction activities taking place within water channels and protected wetland zone areas that are meant to serve as natural buffers against flooding.
Despite several warnings from the Regional Minister, the Municipal Assembly, and his own office, construction has continued in some restricted areas. The MP therefore ordered an immediate halt to all ongoing works and directed that illegal structures be pulled down to protect lives and property in the community.
“We are working hard to protect our people from floods, but it’s unfortunate that a few are choosing personal profit over public safety,” Rev. Addo lamented.
He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling flooding in Ablekuma West, noting that while government continues to invest heavily in drainage and flood-control projects, non-compliance with building regulations continues to undermine these efforts.
Rev. Addo further assured residents that his office will continue working closely with the Municipal Assembly, NADMO, and other key agencies to enforce environmental laws, restore order, and ensure the safety of all residents in flood-prone communities across the constituency.
