The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed disapproval of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, citing what he perceives as a deficiency in tangible outcomes during its initial year in office.
In his remarks regarding the economic situation and the government’s performance, Afenyo-Markin raised concerns about whether the administration had initiated any significant projects or addressed outstanding payments to contractors who had obtained bank loans for public works.
“Last year, 2025, what did the government do? Did it pay contractors who had worked and borrowed from banks? If the economy is stagnating and we continue to talk about paper growth, I am interested in the cocoa farmer and the real impact on citizens,” he said.
He emphasised that macroeconomic indicators hold no value if they fail to enhance the lives of everyday Ghanaians.
“I am not here to talk about numbers that have no effect. If the numbers have made a positive impact, I will acknowledge and applaud them. But so far, one year in office, the government has not made any real impact,” he added.
