A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing from patients at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.
The modus operandi of the suspect, Gabriel Oti Ankrah, is to wear a lab coat and parade himself as a doctor to steal from unsuspecting victims.
On a daily basis, issues of missing laptops, mobile phones and parts of air conditioners are reported to the hospital’s internal security but the culprit was never found.
Luck however run out for the unemployed suspect when he was questioned by a doctor during his usual morning stealing spree.
He was caught red-handed stealing a patient’s mobile phone.
In his defense, he told the doctor that the said patient he was stealing from was a relative of his and the sick relative had asked him to charge his phone for him.
The resident doctor then asked him to mention the sick relative’s name but the suspect failed to do so.
The sick patient who was now awake also denied knowing the said suspect.
A search further revealed two other mobile phones belonging to other patients.
Gabriel has been handed over to Koforidua Police. He will be processed before the court later today, Tuesday, March 28.
