Kpando Heart of Lions has gained promotion to Ghana Premier League after spending eight years in the second tier of Ghana football.
The Lions return to the elite league after winning the 2022/23 Division One Zone 1 league season with six more matches to spare.
The Giant Killers, “Dzi Woa Nu” boys are currently leading the Zone 3 standings with 56 points from 24 matches and a staggering 16 points ahead of second-placed team Vision FC.
Most of the people in Volta Region are overwhelmed by the promotion and speaking to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, some fans believe the promotion to the big League is the dawn of a new era for football in the Volta Region.
Lions exhibited a humongous dominance in the early 2000s and had nurtured some of the amazing Ghanaian footballers like Sadat Bukari, Gilbert Fiamenyo, Stephen Ahorlu, John Boye, Jerry Akaminko, Eric Bekoe, Gladson Awako, Haminu Draman, Dominic Adiyiah, etc.
After the 2015 league season, the Lions were relegated from the top flight league after amassing 40 points but unfortunately, the points was not enough to guarantee them safety and lost their Premiership status alongside Brong Ahafo (BA) United and Accra Great Olympics.
Despite numerous struggles for a quick return to the Premier League after the 2015 season, finally, they’ve confirmed their promotion into the league after taking the 2022/23 Division One League by the scruff of the neck.
Lions have been two times champions of the GHALCA TOP4 competition in 2005 and 2009 respectively.
