The New Patriotic Party’s UK branch has condemned the recent remarks by Joyce Bawa, spokesperson for ex-president John Mahama, which downgraded the status of the Ashanti king to that of a mere chief.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, May 14, to sirrichie.com, the NPP-UK condemned Joyce Bawa’s statement that described the Ashanti King not as a king but as a chief.

The statement also mentioned that Joyce Bawa’s remarks are not only factually incorrect but also culturally insensitive and disrespectful to the Ashanti Kingdom, its heritage, and the symbol of the “Sika Dwa Kofi.”
The release called for Joyce Bawa and the office of former president Mahama to issue a clear and unequivocal apology to His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Ashanti people.
