The Gomoa Dominase District Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Fulani herdsman Umaru Abdulai for stealing 20 cattle valued at GHC200,000 from the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Information gathered indicates that the suspect and his accomplices stole cattle from different people in the Gomoa Dominase enclave, sold them to butchers at Awutu Bawjiase, and used some of the money to buy cows from the Northern region.
According to one of the victims, Umar Inusah, the suspect and his accomplices would usually come to the onion market during the daytime, ostensibly to buy goods, but their real intention was to spy on the cattle and identify the big ones.
Umar Inusah said the suspect would then come in the night, steal the big cows they identified, and sell them to butchers.
He said a farmer who saw their daily operations informed a police officer who stayed in his house, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, his accomplices are on the run.
The suspect is assisting in a police investigation at the Gomoa Dominase police station.
Meanwhile, Umar Inusah said the Fulani herdsmen are disturbing the onion sellers at Gomoa Dominase and called on the government to sack them, or else they will take the law into their own hands and defend their cattle.
