In the Suhum Municipality, new posters have surfaced featuring Oboafo Kwadjo Asante, the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency.
Despite losing the last primaries, the posters suggest that he intends to run as an independent parliamentary candidate for the upcoming general election.
The posters, which bear the slogan “Maintain – Hon Oboafo Kwadjo Asante as MP. The King of Development,” suggest the outgoing MP will defy the party to contest in the December 2024 polls.
The development has sparked a buzz in the constituency, with several branded posters and flyers bearing messages such as “The Development King” and “Oboafo Toaso,” circulating widely.
Additionally, vehicles adorned with his images have been spotted, indicating a well-coordinated campaign.
According to reports, despite not officially declaring his intention as yet, sources close to Asante reveal that he has been encouraged by market women and other community stakeholders to consider the move.
The MP’s recent community development initiatives, including the construction of a new football pitch and a bridge, have bolstered his reputation as a dedicated public servant.
The current political climate in Suhum is tense, with Asante and the NPP’s new parliamentary candidate, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, engaging in separate activities within the constituency.
This has prompted calls from concerned party members for the leadership to address the situation before it escalates further.
Asante made history in 2020 by winning the parliamentary seat as a first-timer with a significant majority.
