A 44-year-old farmer, Enoch Kusi, is on the run after allegedly killing his wife, Ama Kwakyewaa, during a violent attack on her farm at Akyem Adwafo in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
The tragic incident has shocked residents, who have joined the police in a manhunt to bring him to justice.
According to Osei Amponsah, a close relative of the deceased, the couple had been having serious marital problems over the past three months.
He said Kwakyewaa left their matrimonial home and returned to her family after a heated disagreement.
“Just last Tuesday morning, she told me she was going to her farm. A few hours later, her daughter, Yaa Beebi, came running to my house, screaming that her father had killed her mother,” Mr Amponsah recounted.
Mr Amponsah said he rushed to the scene with the help of three other men and found Kwakyewaa lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She had reportedly been struck multiple times in the head with a club.
They carried her to the community clinic, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
He also recalled a previous violent attempt by Kusi to harm Kwakyewaa about a month ago, which was stopped by neighbours.
The Akyem Ofoase District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Bawa, confirmed that investigations are underway and the suspect is currently at large.
