The Komenda Traditional Council has reiterated calls for the refurbishment and operationalisation of the Komenda Sugar Factory to create sustainable jobs for the many unemployed youth in the area.
According to the Council, reviving the factory’s operations would significantly support the government’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative.
Speaking at the 2025 Komendaman Nyeyi Festival, the Paramount Chief of the Komenda Traditional Area, Okatakyie Komeh VIII, urged the government to expedite plans to restart operations at the factory.
He assured that local farmers are ready and willing to cultivate sugarcane to supply the necessary raw materials once production resumes.
The Paramount Chief further highlighted the need for an expanded landing bay to accommodate more ships and canoes operated by local fishermen.
He noted that a larger docking area would ease the burden on road transport and reduce the rate of deterioration of major roads caused by heavy cargo trucks.
