Two young women are in police custody in Elmina after allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis into the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Beauty Buerkie Buertey and 23-year-old Maura Amissah, were arrested after prison officers intercepted a container of pepper sauce, locally known as shito, during routine checks.
Officers reportedly discovered that the sauce had been laced with a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to information gathered, the women had visited the facility under the pretext of delivering items to inmates.
However, vigilant officers became suspicious during inspection and subjected the container to further examination, leading to the discovery.
The two suspects were subsequently handed over to the police in Elmina for further investigations.
Authorities say samples of the substance will undergo testing to confirm its composition.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges in accordance with the law.
