A Circuit Court in Bibiani presided over by His Honour, Frank Asiedu Nimako, has remanded three persons, including a pastor, into police custody for two weeks over their alleged attempt to bury alive a five-month-old baby at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The accused — Apostle Dr. Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, 36, Head Pastor of Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, Beatrice Agyapomaa, 23, and Emmanuel Appiah, 53 — appeared before the court on four counts following their arrest.A fourth suspect, Emmanuel Donkor, is currently on the run.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m., when Frimpong allegedly attempted to murder the infant, identified as Anaya Achiaa, aged five months and two weeks, and was charged with an attempt to committee murder under Section 48 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Frimpong and Agyapomaa have also been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime under Section 23(1) of Act 29, for allegedly agreeing to carry out the act together, while Appiah faces a charge of abetment of crime under Section 20(1) for allegedly facilitating the offence.
The case stems from a shocking incident that was foiled following the intervention of a vigilant eyewitness at a refuse dump in Abofrem.
An eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, told Daily Guide that he spotted the suspects late at night holding the baby under suspicious circumstances. His curiosity led him to confront them, only to discover that the child was still alive and allegedly about to be buried.
Further details indicate that the Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, had earlier been informed by the pastor that the baby had died. Based on that information, he directed them to a burial site, unaware that the infant was alive.
The baby was subsequently rescued and rushed to the Abofrem Clinic, where the child is currently receiving medical attention.
Police at Bibiani confirmed the arrest of the suspects and said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Ahyiresu Electoral Area, Yusuf Suleiman, also confirmed the story.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage within the community, with residents calling for swift justice, amid suspicions that the act may have been linked to ritual purposes.
