According to the Accra Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had visited his brother at the apartment with his girlfriend on Friday, February 27, 2026.
During the visit, a caretaker reportedly raised an alarm accusing him of theft, prompting some residents and members of the public to allegedly attack him.
Police say a patrol team responded swiftly to a distress call, rescued Austin Tengeeh, and rushed him to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency treatment.
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
His body was later deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home for preservation and autopsy before arrangements were made for its repatriation to Liberia.
In connection with the incident, three suspects; Vincent Adzikah (38), Francis Amuzu (44), and William Addison (34), have been arrested and are assisting police with investigations.
A fourth suspect, identified as Enoch Mensah, remains at large, with police indicating that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
The Accra Regional Police Command condemned the incident and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
“Acts of mob justice and unlawful assault are criminal offences that undermine due process and the rule of law,” the Command stated.
