A CCTV footage has surfaced showing the moment a suspected phone snatcher fled with a victim’s mobile device in broad daylight, catching him off guard.

The over two-minute video, shared on X on April 12, 2026, shows a male suspect dressed in black trousers, a black-and-white shirt, and a baseball cap, riding a motorbike.

In the footage, the suspect is seen stopping along the roadside and engaging an unsuspecting victim.

He appears to call the victim over and pretends to examine something on the victim’s phone.

At one point, the victim attempts to walk away but is called back by the suspect, who continues the act before suddenly snatching the phone and speeding off on the motorbike.

The victim is then seen chasing after the suspect in distress, running into oncoming traffic as the rider makes his escape.

According to a report by Channel One TV, the suspect, identified by police as Joseph Nii Amamu Offei, also known as “Gaza” or “Hero”, was later arrested near Kwame Nkrumah Circle on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The arrest followed sustained intelligence-led police surveillance, which linked him to a mobile phone-snatching syndicate operating in Accra.

He is currently assisting police with investigations after initially being interrogated at the Kaneshie Police Station.
