Six persons have lost their lives while 34 others have been rescued following multiple road traffic accidents across the Volta Region on Sunday, June 21, the Ghana National Fire Service has said.

The first set of incidents occurred along the Todome stretch near Kpeve on the Peki–Kpeve Road.

A rescue crew from the Peki Fire Station responded to two simultaneous crashes after receiving a distress call at 12:53 pm. The team deployed resources to both locations.One crash involved a MAN Diesel TGS truck travelling from Tema to Tamale and a Toyota Camry travelling from Nkwanta to Accra.

All five occupants, four males and one female, were rescued before the crew arrived.

Both vehicles sustained partial damage.The second crash involved a Metro Mass Transit bus travelling from Accra to Dambai with 28 passengers on board.

The rescue crew extricated and rescued 24 victims, seven males and 17 females, who were conveyed to the Peki Government Hospital.

Four persons, including one male and three females, died at the scene. Their bodies were handed over to the Police.

In a separate incident at the Ho Civic Centre, rescuers from the Ho Regional Headquarters responded to a crash at 1:04 pm. The crew, under the command of ADO II Seth Sarfo, arrived within two minutes. The accident involved a Hyundai Mighty truck, a Pragya tricycle, and an unregistered motorbike. 

Ten victims were rescued and transported to the Ho Municipal Hospital and Ho Teaching Hospital. Follow-up at the hospitals later confirmed two male fatalities among the injured.

The vehicles sustained varying degrees of damage, and investigations are underway to determine the causes. The GNFS urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations, avoid excessive speeding, exercise caution, and ensure regular vehicle maintenance to help reduce preventable crashes.
