Nyarko pleaded guilty during police investigations to having sexual intercourse with the victim in 2024. The girl, now 14, later tested positive for HIV following a medical examination conducted as part of the case.
According to prosecution, the matter was reported on May 29, 2026, by the victim’s father, 68-year-old insurance agent Peter Adamtey.
He had received information that another suspect, Derrick, who is currently at large, had allegedly abducted his daughter and taken her to a room at Adjikpo, a suburb of Somanya.
When the father rushed to the location, he did not find the suspect and reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
During questioning, the victim told police that Nyarko had also forcibly had unprotected sex with her in 2024. A medical examination at Somanya Polyclinic confirmed she was HIV positive.
Further investigations revealed that Nyarko is a known HIV patient who had defaulted on his antiretroviral treatment for a prolonged period.
Police allege he had been engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse with unsuspecting persons. Nyarko was arrested on June 3, 2026.
In his cautioned statement, he admitted to having sex with the victim at his residence. On June 12, 2026, police obtained a court order to release his medical records from Somanya Polyclinic to aid investigations.
Police were also notified by the victim that she had engaged in unprotected sexual relations with her former class teacher, who is also on the run. During the court hearing, prosecutors said they are working to arrest Derrick and the former class teacher. Nyarko has since been remanded into lawful custody to begin his 20-year sentence.
