A Streatham community has become a hive of police activity following a daylight shooting that left a man in his 20s in hospital. Crime scene investigators in protective clothing continued to gather evidence outside a block of flats hours after gunshots rang out on Leigham Court Road yesterday (September 14).
The Metropolitan Police, paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance descended on the Norwood area shortly after 3.05pm, where the injured victim was found. Now, a major investigation is underway to identify and locate the suspected gunman.
Photos taken at the cordon around Hawthorn Court yesterday show a team working behind the blue-and-white tape until nightfall. They could be seen placing yellow evidence markers on the pavement near the block’s entrance, and MyLondon understands a bullet casing was recovered.
Metres away lies discarded clothing and medical equipment used by first responders waiting to be collected. The cordon is still in place, and neighbouring residents have been told to expect an increased police presence whilst enquiries are completed.
