Unemployed Environmental Health Officers and Assistants have declared their intention to protest today, Monday, December 15, 2025, against what they characterise as years of unemployment and ongoing neglect by the state.
In a statement, the group indicated that the upcoming protest aims to demand immediate employment, postings, and formal recognition for trained Environmental Health Officers, Assistants, and graduates of the School of Hygiene.
As per the association, the demonstration will commence at Independence Square in Accra and proceed through significant ministries and state institutions that are responsible for sanitation, health, and local governance.
The group has assured that the march will be conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner, featuring organised chants and traditional Jama performances to attract public attention to what they claim are over five years of delayed postings and underutilised professional expertise.
“At every ministry we pass, we will respectfully but firmly demand answers. Ghana needs sanitation officers now, and the government must act,” the statement said.
The association emphasised that the protest is not meant to disrupt public order but to underscore the urgent necessity for effective sanitation enforcement and environmental health protection, especially in light of ongoing public health risks.
It further highlighted that Environmental Health Officers are trained and licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council to protect public health and the environment, yet they continue to be overlooked despite the increasing sanitation challenges faced nationwide.
Consequently, the group has urged media organisations across print, broadcast, and digital platforms to cover the demonstration, describing it as a civic action in the national interest.
“Sanitation is national security, and Ghana cannot continue to delay the enforcement of sanitation laws,” the statement added.
