Two men have been arrested after allegedly offering GH¢150,000 to officers of the Ghana Police Service in an attempt to secure the release of a truck loaded with cannabis.
The suspects, identified as Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35, reportedly approached officers from the Tema Regional Police Command after a Sinotruck carrying 3,009 slabs of cannabis was intercepted.
According to sources, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled upon spotting the police. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.
The following day, the two suspects allegedly appeared at the police station and offered GH¢150,000 in cash to have the truck released.
In a surprising turn, although the officers reportedly received the money as evidence, the suspects were arrested on the spot. The cash has since been retrieved as part of the investigations.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned as police continue efforts to clamp down on narcotics trafficking and related offences.
